Surprisingly with my spreadsheet addiction, this year is my first time documenting my rosters. While there is a rogue league or two floating around not covered, this is essentially my spectrum of leagues heading into the 2014 season.
- 30 total leagues documented
- 16 dynasty leagues
- 1 keep-5 league (no restrictions)
- 5 auction keepers (escalating salaries)
- 3 industry redrafts
- 5 deep best ball leagues
So a focus on dynasty and keeper with a sprinkling of short-term focus in there as well.
Starting with the quarterback position in this edition:
- 8: Ryan Tannehill
- 7: Russell Wilson
- 6: Blake Bortles
- 6: Colin Kaepernick
- 6: Derek Carr
- 4: Andrew Luck
- 4: Geno Smith
- 3: Cam Newton
- 3: Jake Locker
- 3: Logan Thomas
- 3: Shaun Hill
- 2: Aaron Rodgers
- 2: Jay Cutler
- 1: Tony Romo
Russell Wilson has a solid mix between all the formats. Even with a modest uptick in volume this season (plus the Percy Harvin boost), Wilson will be a borderline top-5 option, or better, in 2014. Colin Kaepernick, like Wilson looks poised for an uptick this season with an improved set of weapons and the ever-present rushing threat.
Blake Bortles and Derek Carr have been my favorite dirt-cheap options in the 2-QB best ball leagues I love to play. All of Shaun Hill’s shares are also in best ball. Hill is in line to see a full season of starts, the opportunities is wide open for Carr to control his fate, and Blake Bortles will replace stopgap Chad Henne by October is my estimation.

Ryan Tannehill has been my default stash in start-one leagues for dynasty when I wait. Geno Smith and Jake Locker are quality upside plays in auction formats for $1. If either of them pan out into regular top-15 weekly plays, it is a value boon with assets funneled to stud receivers in those leagues.
Overall, it is apparent that I value the up-and-coming QB1 production (or potential) over the stud theory at the position. Plus, I love the mobile guys. Even 200-300 yards a season is a big boost at a muddy position year-to-year in the QB5-15 range. Finally, I am pretty flexible at the position with no quarterback on more than 30% of my total roster count.
