As you enter the halfway point with your fantasy football season it is important to decide whether your team will be competing for the championship this year. In general, consider rebuilding a team if the record is worse than 3-5, or if the team has had too many injuries to stay competitive. Selling players close to the peak of their fantasy value or buying into players near the floor of their value is an art which will allow you to build long-lasting equity. With half of the season under our belts some contenders will look to sell assets unable to help now and rebuilders will look to dump productive veterans. Here are a few dynasty trading buys and sells to help boost your team’s equity with price point suggestions:
Buy Low Targets
- Jordan Matthews : late 2016 1st, or try to flip Larry Fitzgerald or Brandon Marshall type to contender
- Mike Evans
- Sammy Watkins
- Randall Cobb
- Jeremy Hill : late 2016 1st
- Melvin Gordon : 2016 1st+ something smaller
You may find owners, especially borderline playoff contenders, frustrated with the performance from some of their players. Granted Mike Evans or Randall Cobb may not be ground-level purchases, however, they have a decent gap in production compared to ADP. These players are undervalued assets. They have the targets or carries to be productive but just have not put it all together.
- Jeremy Langford : valued around a 2016 2nd or higher, and rising
- Orleans Darkwa
- Tevin Coleman : possible to snag for 2016 2nd or 3rd
- Rishard Matthews
- Marquess Wilson : would pay 2016 4th or later target price
- Kamar Aiken/ Chris Givens/ Crockett Gillmore
- Tavon Austin : could easily buy for a mid 2016 2nd
Some players have yet to see their value peak. You will not find these players on your waiver but they will likely be an owner’s RB5/6 or WR5/6. Tavon Austin and Rishard Matthews may be undervalued yet are performing as top-25 PPR receivers through these eight weeks. Langford and Darkwa could soon be lead backs for their teams.
- Karlos Williams
- Le’Veon Bell
- Breshad Perriman : 2016 2nd matched with a player like Ladarius Green or Michael Crabtree
- Rashad Greene
- Kelvin Benjamin : prospect + 2016 2nd could close a deal here or a Larry Fitzgerald or Brandon Marshall
- Keenan Allen : PPR beast until spleen injury an owner may look to cut to supplement production loss
- Davante Adams
- Kevin White
- Austin Serferian-Jenkins : would love to buy in for something like Ben Watson+ 2016 2nd or less.
Another way to increase your overall equity is by purchasing injured players for a discount. Players like Kelvin Benjamin are injured so badly they will not see the field until next year. Use the knowledge you gain from UTH to your advantage and target teams looking to contend who may want to increase the usable players on their roster.
Sell High Targets
- Chris Johnson
- Danny Woodhead : could get 2016 1st plus to a contender in PPR
- Justin Forsett : love a late 2016 1st or better here
- Doug Martin : try to sell now plus picks to Le’Veon owner/injury riddled contender
- Darren McFadden : take a late 1st if possible or flip for an asset like Melvin Gordon which are prime to rise in value
- Larry Fitzgerald
- Nate Washington : later round pick + a prospect and be merry
- Brandon Marshall : easily could snatch 2016 1st + good prospect
- Antonio Gates
- Ben Watson
You should focus on phasing out your older talent for rookie picks and young prospects whether contending or rebuilding. Many of the above players are 30 or older and the chances they stay fantasy relevant or avoid injuries are slim. Danny Woodhead is the No.3 PPR running back through Week 8 despite Gordon getting carries. Woodhead and other players like Doug Martin, Larry Fitzgerald, and Darren McFadden can catch a premium with recent injuries to players on contending teams.
- Chris Ivory : sold two weeks back for late 2016 1st; can probably get a 16 1st+ prospect with all RB injuries now.
- Deangelo Williams : 2016 1st bare minimum
- Alfred Blue
- Danny Amendola
- Willie Snead : hope for a late 2016 1st, be happy with an early 2016 2nd
- Vernon Davis : sell before he hits the field or after a couple good games
For some players success is only temporary. A change in scenery or an injury to a starter has given short-term value to players like Vernon Davis, Danny Amendola, and Alfred Blue. Chris Ivory has three backs breathing down his neck but has been able to perform with some nicks and bruises. Willie Snead is at a great selling point if you believe he is replaceable.
