This dynasty trade was made in late-May on an orphan I adopted during the 2016 offseason. The league is a 12-team, best ball, TripleFlex, tight end premium league with a six round annual devy draft. Starting lineups include 1-2-3-2-2SFlex.
The Approach
After a solid dispersal draft and some offseason trades to gain additional value, I arguably had the best quarterback situation in the league. Shortly after the draft, several teams realized punting quarterback in a 6-points per passing touchdown TripleFlex league was a bad decision. I was one of the only teams with the depth to trade a quarterback without needing one in return.
Because I had gone quarterback and tight end heavy in the dispersal draft, my receiver group was weak. Starting trade talks with a team who went wide receiver heavy, I initially targeted Donte Moncrief and Devin Funchess in the deal but settled for players in similar tiers.
The Trade
Gave Ryan Tannehill, 2017 Devy 4
Received Jordan Matthews, Will Fuller, 2017 Devy 1, 2017 Devy 2
Ryan Tannehill is a major piece in a TripleFlex format due to his stable position and talented weapons, but I could afford to trade my QB3 to fill my wide receiver depth chart. The devy picks are also extremely valuable because of the depth of the devy pool. With six rounds of devy players selected each year, very few players of note make it through to the rookie draft. Since I do not expect to compete this year, my goal was to add devy picks.
My Post-Trade Roster Highlights

Melvin Gordon, Ryan Mathews, Jerick McKinnon
Kevin White, Jordan Matthews, Josh Doctson, Will Fuller, Michael Crabtree, Kenny Bell

Takeaways
This trade highlights the importance of being strong at the premium positions. Once the other teams realize their mistakes, it will be too late for them to correct and you will be sitting on added value. Jordan Matthews, a player I love, was taken in the second round of the dispersal draft. I took Ryan Tannehill with the last pick of the third round yet was able to get significant juice on top of Matthews in this deal, less than a month after the draft completed. Understand the format, build your board and stick to your guns. This is how you build dynasties.
