The official weigh-in is complete for the 2016 quarterback class at the NFL Combine. Here are thoughts on the early measurements:
Risers
Dak Prescott: I was a little concern with Prescott coming in that he might not measure up height wise and would be written off quickly. Checking in at 6’2″ is a big win for Prescott and showing he is thick too coming in at 226 lbs. Did I mention Prescott tied for having the biggest hands of all the quarterbacks at the combine (10.875″). We may have to reinstate the use of the term banana hands just for Prescott.
Cardale Jones: at 253 lbs Jones was the heaviest quarterback of the group and that is even with Paxton Lynch standing two inches taller. Cardal measured in at 6’5″ and had good enough hand size at 9.75″. On top of solid measurements Cardale received an added bump from trainer George Whitfield, who is called by some a quarterback guru, saying that “I haven’t seen anything like his arm.” Take that for what you will, but George Whitfield has trained notables such as Andrew Luck and Cam Newton.
Paxton Lynch: The biggest concerns with the top prospects at their positions are if they will really check out with what their colleges reported. Lynch did not disappoint checking in at 6’7″ and having 10.25″ hands. Lynch may get enough juice in the process to work his way back to QB2 in this class.
Cody Kessler: Maybe a dark horse in this class I like how Kessler measured in. Showing he is thick at 6’1″ and 220 pounds with exceptional hand size tying the top of the class (10.875″).
Carson Wentz: Confirmed prototypical size at 6’5″ with 10″ hands. The buzz is only building around this kid with Mike Mayock saying Wentz has Andrew Luck upside.
Fallers
Jared Goff: Only weighing in at 215 lbs is definitely a knock against him in this process and displaying “Chad-sized hands” will not help his case either with only measuring in at 9″.
Brandon Allen: Speaking of “Chad-sized hands” Allen will be taking the biggest hit of all the quarterbacks at the combine. Measuring in with the smallest hands (8.875″), tying for third shortest (6’1″), and having the third shortest arms of all the quarterbacks (31.75″).
Christian Hackenberg: After a poor 2015 season at Penn State I was hoping Hackenberg would at least check in physically to show he does have the body to work with. While he did weigh in heavies than Goff, he also checked in with the same hand size (9″). Which could explain, in part, his trouble with interceptions and inaccuracy.
