From 1999 to 2014, there are 22 drafted wide receivers in my database that were drafted by the NFL and weighted at least 225 pounds in the pre-draft process.
Why 225 Pounds?
That weight is the threshold to be in the top-20% of the entire wide receiver population for the NFL Draft process. Plus weight is the backbone of a receiver’s athletic profile with many drills times and measurements being tweaked by a player’s weight.
Of these 22 oversized receivers, six produced 10+ PPR PPG as a rookie:
- Andre Johnson
- Larry Fitzgerald
- Calvin Johnson
- Dez Bryant
Fantasy owners may have heard of these guys. All of them have gone on to produce at least 300 career VBD (and counting) and Andre Johnson’s 11 PPG in his third season marks the low-water point for any of the four studs within their first three seasons.
